Destiny’s New Sub-Classes Originated Before The Taken King, Abilities and Skills Revealed

Guess which class has even better melee range?

Game Informer continues its monthly coverage of Destiny’s next expansion The Taken King. Judging by the live-stream yesterday, there are a fair bit of new features coming with the expansion which kicks off year two of Destiny. One of those includes the new sub-classes, namely the Sunbreaker Titan, Nightstalker Hunter and Stormcaller Warlock.

Bungie talked a bit more about these sub-classes with GI and revealed that they were in development much before The Taken King’s release. Time was needed to refine them though and some ideas, like the Warlock having Necromancer abilities and summoning dead enemies, were nixed (though it isn’t completely out of consideration for the long run). It also seems that Bungie abandoned the idea of a fourth class for Destiny pretty early in development.

As for some of the new abilities and skills for the new classes, we received a few new details. Sunbreaker Titans can further augment their Hammer of Sol ability while Nightstalker Hunters receive the ability to dodge-roll. Warlock haters will be pleased to know that the Stormcaller’s melee is “probably going to be the most contentious thing. He has a very long-range attack when his melee skill is charged up. It’s very hard to beat him in a melee fight from a distance.

“Warlocks should start getting used to engaging with melee early on. If they’re not going up against another stormcaller in PvP he can win melee fights pretty easy.” Which is funny because Warlocks already have such stunning melee range compared to the other two classes already.
