Diablo 4 – Blizzard Explains the Game’s New Animation Technology

Art director John Mueller talks about how the game feels "very different than Diablo III."

Blizzard are promising a lot of new stuff with the upcoming Diablo 4from its MMO-esque shared open world approach to a bevy of dungeons on top of other improvements, while there’s also a lot that they haven’t yet shared. Of the many things that they will be improving upon in the sequel, one of the more interesting – at least from a visuals perspective – is the animations, powered by the new engine that the game is built on.

Speaking in an interview with AusGamersDiablo 4 art director John Mueller spoke about the game’s new animations, and how all the improvements being made make “the movement feel more fluid”, and “very different than Diablo III.”

“We’ve added a lot of animation technology,” said Mueller. “Blending animation and having stop animations and having different animations make the movement feel very different than Diablo III. It’s all increasing the resolution. And in action it makes the movement feel more fluid, with stuff like character turns looking better than ever.”

Diablo 4 is currently in development at Blizzard for PC and consoles, but there’s no telling yet when it will be out- it’ll probably be long time though. That said, rumour has it there will be a beta next year, so maybe we’ll be get out hands on the game in some capacity not long from now. Blizzard have also confirmed that they will be sharing a new update on the game in February. Read more on that through here.
