DICE confident about Battlefield 3: ‘Our competitors are getting lazy. We’re coming for them’

The first person shooter genre is heating up with the likes of a new Call of Duty, Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3, all scheduled to hit this year. Over the last couple of weeks we have seen a lot of Battlefield 3 and there is no doubt in my mind that it is shaping up to be a promising shooter.

But don’t take my word for it. Speaking in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine DICE general manager, Karl-Magnus Troedsson sounded very confident about Battlefield and in the process warning the competitors.

“Our competitors are getting lazy. They’re using the same engine, the same recipe for building a game. At some point you need to take that leap. I haven’t seen them take that leap since a long time ago.

“We are doing that now. They had better watch out. We are coming for them.”

“Our competitors keep building very, very high tempo games. We want to tell a story with more drama curves. It’s not about pumping round after round for six hours,” Troedsson told OPM.

It will be interesting to see how this one shapes and I really hope that Battlefield 3 lives up to the insane hype that it is getting so early in the development cycle.
