Directive 8020 Showcases Extensive Prologue Gameplay and Deathly Consequences

Carter and Simms investigate a hull breach on the Cassiopeia, which leads to dire results and a sinister new presence on the ship.

While Supermassive Games’ Directive 8020 has been delayed to 2026, the studio debuted some extensive new gameplay during Gamescom. It highlights the Prologue, with Carter and Simms venturing onto the Cassiopeia’s hull to investigate a sudden breach. Check it out below.

The new Turning Points kick in from the start, with even the decision on how to tackle the breach creating a significant plot point to return to. As the duo walk outside on the ship’s hull, they discover the breach, just missing the strange alien organism on one of its parts. While making their way back, Simms is suddenly launched off and into space.

Despite making it back, Carter fails to save her, causing Simms to drift away into the beyond. Or so it seems. Upon entering the ship, Carter encounters her wielding an electric baton and chasing him throughout, resulting in a cat-and-mouse game of stealth. The former eventually gets away and tells the crew about what happened, but still meets his demise.

The other “Simms” is likely the shapeshifting organism which can mimic the forms of other crew members, sowing doubt and confusion. How Carter’s death will impact their journey and whether there’s a way to save him remains to be seen. Directive 8020 is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC – stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
