Update: Due to an interruption in the livestream, there was some confusion regarding Spencer’s statements about 20% GPU improvements on Xbox One. But Spencer did not actually mentioned a platform.
Original Story:
In the ongoing presentation at GDC by Microsoft, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has confirmed that DirectX 12 adds 20% GPU Boost to the Xbox One. Along with this announcement, Spencer also showcased a demo of Unreal Tournament which was running on DirectX 12.
Given that the Xbox One has a inferior GPU compared to the PlayStation 4, developers working on Xbox One will deeply appreciate the boost in power. Although, there is still some confusion regarding how DX12 will actually improve games performance on Xbox One, it’s still intriguing to know where the API is heading next. In the past, Phil Spencer has confirmed that the new API will boost performance of games by 50%. So this along with 20% GPU boost should definitely result into better looking games on Xbox One.
We will keep you updated as this develops. But what are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments section below.
