Our modern age is full of many mysteries, but none more so than the apparent sales figures of Ninja Theory’s DmC: Devil May Cry. Released recently for PS3 and Xbox 360, sales figures are starting to come out for Japan.
The results? About 110,429 copies sold on PS3, with the Xbox 360 averaging a measly 6,000 copies according to Media Create. Compared to Devil May Cry 4’s 205,390 copies on the PS3 and 40,023 copies on the Xbox 360 when it launched in 2008, that’s quite underwhelming.
However, Media Creates surmises that it was casual fans who decided to skip the latest edition of Capcom’s action series. Why? Because pre-order sales for the PS3 version of DmC are roughly the same as Devil May Cry 4’s.
Of course, there’s been no confirmation from Capcom on whether the game is doing well or not. Sales figures from Europe indicate the game has sold much less than its predecessor at launch but is still doing really well. Let’s not even get into the number of Devil May Cry 4 copies that were bundled with consoles at the time.
But when stacked against the game’s overall development and marketing budget, has it done better than previous entries? That remains up to Capcom to confirm.
