DOOM For Nintendo Switch Will be Built For The Ground Up For The System

Custom built rippin' and tearing.

Bethesda is bringing DOOM, its hit first person shooter from last year, to the Nintendo Switch- and many have wondered exactly how this will work- after all, the Switch is fairly less capable in terms of raw hardware power than the Xbox One and the PS4. However, apparently id Software and Bethesda will go beyond just a simple port here- they have rebuilt the entire game for Nintendo’s hybrid.

DOOM on Switch is custom-built for the hardware and while graphics won’t be 1:1 with other platforms, the game will deliver the amazing DOOM look and feel that fans are excited to get on Switch,” a Bethesda spokesperson told USGamer.

The “look and feel” part makes me hopeful that Bethesda will try and maintain the 60 frames per second framerate that is so integral to the game- it would be a shame if that was lost in transition, after all.

Of course, DOOM isn’t the only Bethesda and id Software shooter coming to the Switch, either- apparently, Machine Games’ Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is also going to be releasing on the Nintendo Switch. Unlike DOOM, which is due out before the end of this year, however, Wolfenstein 2 will be coming to the Switch some time next year.
