Bethesda and id Software have announced that DOOM, the extremely successful first person shooter that rebooted the classic franchise back in 2016, will be getting patches enabling Xbox One X and PS4 Pro enhancements tomorrow. And the best part? The patches bring 4K resolution to both versions of the game (so no more needless console warring).
Bethesda confirmed the news in their announcement of the patch; conveniently, of course, they have not specified whether or not the patch will enable native 4K, or whether 4K will be achieved thanks to upscaling techniques like checkerboard rendering. That said, id Software are technical wizards, and their engine hugely scalaeable—so I wouldn’t be surprised if the game does hit native 4K on both systems.
DOOM is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Nintendo Switch. The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X enhancement patches will both be available tomorrow—make sure you have enough space on your console’s hard drive clear.
