After a long wait, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is finally available worldwide for fans and already crossed 184,000 peak concurrent players on Steam. However, despite critical acclaim, the open-world action RPG has “Mixed” rating on Steam, where only 40 percent of its 7,103 user reviews are positive. It was in the “Mostly Negative” range a few hours prior.
PC performance and technical issues are some reasons for the negative reviews (Capcom is aware of the former and promises fixes), but many are critical of the microtransactions. They range from Rift Crystals to purchase Pawns and Wakestones to revive the dead to Ambivalent Incense to change a Pawn’s inclination and Portcrystals for fast travel. There’s even one for changing the player’s appearance in-game.
Several of these were announced as part of the Deluxe Edition’s A Boon for Adventures – Journey Pack, but upon launch, many fans discovered they’re purchasable separately with real money. Capcom never mentioned the microtransactions before, and though several of these are obtainable in-game, it’s generating ire on top of the $70 price tag and poor performance on PC.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is also available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Outside of its monetization practices, it’s received extensive acclaim – check out our review here.
