Amid rumors that Dragon’s Dogma 2 would be locked to 30 FPS on consoles, director Hideaki Itsuno has tweeted that the open-world action RPG will release with an uncapped frame rate. On the one hand, this is good news for PC players since it could mean achieving +120 FPS at higher resolutions.
For console players, Itsuno didn’t clarify whether an uncapped frame rate is the only option or if other graphics modes exist. An uncapped frame rate may also be problematic compared to 30 FPS since it can fluctuate depending on the optimization (especially since the world is four times larger than the original game). It’s one of the reasons why Bethesda Game Studios insisted on locking Starfield to 30 FPS on Xbox Series X/S.
As always, we’ll need to wait for more details and how well the game performs at launch, so stay tuned. Dragon’s Dogma 2 launches on March 22nd for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
