Today we got the quarterly financial reports for one of the biggest game companies in the world in Electronic Arts. Not surprisingly, the company is in great shape despite a few key disappointments. With a look at the game’s present, we also get a glimpse at future plans and it looks to be in a lot of live service titles.
In the report, the company confirmed that they will be focusing in on two things going forward: live service games and their “core” franchises. It seems the company wants to continue with games that will have a continually engaged audience, giving examples of the likes of The Sims 4 and Apex Legends, two titles that have had constant updates and expansions.
“Looking ahead, we are doubling down on live services combined with our core franchises. We’re investing in games that people play for longer and engage with much more deeply. This focus will continue to drive growth and profitability for the company through the remainder of this year and beyond.”
This comes despite the fact that one of the company’s live service launches, Anthem, was quite the disaster. But it goes to show their other various projects in that vein have been successful. It also shows that the core franchises, particularly the annual sports titles, are as strong as they’ve ever been.
