Rumours have been circulating for while about Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin collaborating with Dark Souls developer FromSoftware on a new title. When Martin talked about consulting on a game from Japan, those rumours only escalated. Thanks to Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners (who only discovered the leak due to a security issue with Bandai Namco), we now have a name: Elden Ring.
Some art has also leaked along with a description. Published by Bandai Namco Entertainment (which has also had Tales of Arise leaked) for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, Elden Ring is a fantasy action-RPG adventure. It’s created by both Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware’s president, and Martin. “Danger and discovery lurk around every corner in FromSoftware’s largest game to-date.”
Not much else is known about the game, though rumours did indicate that it’s based on Norse mythology. It’s also not “fully” open world due to the limitations of the developer’s engine. Regardless, if titles like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice have taught us anything, it’s that this shouldn’t impede FromSoftware at all. Stay tuned for more information as E3 week begins.
