FromSoftware has noted that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is its biggest expansion yet, and while that means new bosses, areas and dungeons, there are also plenty of new weapons to glean. In its hands-on preview, IGN described new Spirit Summon – Black Knight Commander Andreas. Xbox Wire also revealed two others – Gravebird, which flies, and one based on the terrifying Fingercreepers.
As for the new weapons, the Heavy Smithscript Axe’s heavy attack involves throwing (which doesn’t cost any resources), and the Backhand Blade can split into dual blades. There’s also Milday, a Greatsword whose Weapon Art sees the player assuming a stance to execute various additional attacks like a lunging stab.
The Weapon Art of Backhand Blade involves “dashing to an enemy’s side for a stab to their rib,” which can keep them guessing as you switch between its two forms. Players can also discover new armor, like that of the Oathseeker Knight (which Xbox Wire described as providing “a good deal of protection for its weight”).
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. Head here for more details on its weapon types.
