There aren’t a lot of developers out there who can generate as much excitement for an expansion as they can for an entirely new game, but FromSoftware is surely one among them- especially when the expansion is for a game like Elden Ring. Its first and final paid DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is set to launch later this month, and as its release looms closer, more details on it are continuing to emerge.
For instance, we now know courtesy of @PlaystationSize on Twitter – a page that tracks the PSN backend – that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s download size on the PS5 is going to be 16.502 GB. By modern AAA standards, that’s a little lower than what you’d expect for an expansion of this size, but FromSoftware is no stranger to smaller sizes for games than many would expect. For instance, the mind-bogglingly massive Elden Ring itself has a roughly 45 GB size, which is far lower than most would expect for a game its size.
As per @PlaystationSize, the expansion’s pre-loads will go live on June 19, a coupe of days ahead of its release.
A recent round of hands-on previews also unveiled several new details on Shadow of the Erdtree, detailing its new summons and weapons, dungeons and bosses, and more.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
