The status of Halo on PC is still nebulous- while Microsoft has never outright denied the possibility of Halo games eventually showing up on the PC one day, they also refuse to commit to anything concrete. Right now, the best bet fans of the franchise have of playing Halo on PC is either Halo Wars 2 next year, or streaming the Xbox One Halo games to Windows 10 PCs, and both of these are not exactly what people had in mind.
So, they’re taking matters into their own hands. Installation 01 is a fan-made project that aims to bring together the multiplayer of Halo 1-3 to PC. And it’s not doing anything legally shady or questionable like emulating the original games, or hacking them either- this is going to be its own game.
“We are abiding by Microsoft’s Fair Use Policy and their Game Content Usage Rules,” the creators said about the legality of the project. “Everything in the game is fan created and can be legally downloaded and distributed in accordance with the Game Content Usage Rules. We are not out to make any money, even to cover costs.”
For something that is being done entirely part time, the game looks mighty impressive. Check it out for yourself below. A playable build is planned within the next 8-12 months.
