Now that Final Fantasy 15 is out, its time for the development team, specifically the game’s director to take a look at what the game has done since that launch. One of the most interesting tidbits is that the title is quite a bit more popular outside of Japan, despite the fact that it’s a JRPG.
Director Hajime Tabata spoke about why sales in the West topped millions in one day and sales in Japan were just around 700,000 on the first day. He told the ITmedia Online that the situation is not that bad given the reality of the situation. “The overwhelming majority of sales is overseas. It’s as expected, since the hardware installed base is bigger overseas. The numbers in Japan are quite good considering the present situation of the Japanese game market.”
The game’s director also said the open world aspect of the title is more popular in the West than it is in Japan. All that said, we’ll have to see if the situation will remain the same now that DLC is being released.
