Final Fantasy 7 Remake Director Will Clarify Policy for Sequels in Future

Director Tetsuya Nomura is also aware that the next game has to release quickly.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake made quite the impact when it released, both among fans and new players. While it passed 3.5 million in digital sales and worldwide shipments, it’s only the first part of the original story. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, development is proceeding on Part 2.

That being said, director Tetsuya Nomura is aware that the next game has to release quickly. In an interview with Famitsu, he also talked about wanting to deliver “something more enjoyable than the quality of this work as soon as possible.” A rough translation also saw Nomura stating that the developer will “clarify future policies when we announce the next work.” When that will happen is unknown, however.

How many sequels the remake will have has been a point of contention even before the first part’s release. At the very least, it seems that subsequent titles won’t deviate too far from the original story according to statements by producer Yoshinori Kitase back in April. We’ll still have to wait and see for ourselves though.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently available for PS4 – check out our review here. It’s currently timed exclusive for the platform until April 2021.
