We’re approaching the four-year anniversary of the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and are far enough away from its release that even its sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, is just a little over a month away from release. In all that time, however, the action RPG hasn’t released for Xbox, something that has seemed increasingly baffling as more time has passed.
However, it looks like Square Enix might finally be in the process of bringing the game to Xbox audiences- or at least in the early stages. That’s as per journalist Jez Corden, who recently said on the Xbox Two podcast that he’s got “tentative evidence” that suggests that “there are discussions about Final Fantasy 7 Remake for Xbox.”
The timing might seem curious, given the fact that the aforementioned Rebirth’s launch is right around the corner, but it would be surprising if the 2020 action RPG simply never comes to Xbox consoles. Last year, when Square Enix announced an Xbox Series X/S version of Final Fantasy 14 (which is due out this Spring), the company said that going forward, it would be “working closely” with Microsoft to bring more of its games to Xbox audiences.
Does that mean a Final Fantasy 7 Remake port is finally actually in the works? Might we, perhaps, also expect Xbox ports of Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in the future? That remains to be seen, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for any and all updates on that front, so stay tuned.
