First God of War: Ascension single player details are here

Sony may have revealed some pretty good looking multiplayer details and screenshots for God of War: Ascension earlier today, but fear not, fans of the series- Sony has not forgotten that God of War is, first and foremost, a single player details. They’ve now given a few tidbits regarding the single player campaign of the game.

As many of guessed after seeing the debut trailer for the game, the game is set before all other GoW games, becoming the first chronological game in Kratos’ timeline. It is set six months after Ares tricks Kratos into killing his wife and child and sees the protagonist vying for his revenge on the titular antagonist and his own redemption.

“God of War: Ascension is a prequel that will show Kratos’ emotional path of redemption, while detailing the rise of his rage to break free from Ares’ bond,” Sony said.

“Six months after being tricked into killing his wife and child, a younger Kratos is sentenced to a life of madness with the Furies, caged in a titan sized prison for the living damned,” they continued. “Fighting insanity, his will is tested to the limit as he seeks to break his bond and gain the clarity to seek revenge on Ares for his part in the death of his family.

“Armed with double-chained blades, Kratos must take on mythology’s darkest creatures while solving intricate puzzles throughout his merciless quest for redemption.”

So, Kratos is armed with the Blades of Chaos, contrary to what many were expecting. And thank god for that. Those blades are awesome.

SSM also said that they didn’t name Ascension God of War 4 because they wanted to make it clear that it’s a prequel and that fans can start fresh with it, without playing the first three games.

The game is built on GoW3’s engine, but will offer better textures, lighting and better visuals all around. Kratos’ character is also supposed to be much less angry than usual, given the fact that this is a prequel.

Being the manic fans of the series that we are, these details obviously aren’t enough for us. But we’re gonna have to make do for now. Sony probably will reveal a lot more in the coming days, especially during E3, so stay tuned.
