Gearbox Software has noted several times that Borderlands 3, its eagerly awaited sequel in the looter shooter franchise, will not be at E3 2018. However, it has announced Project 1v1, a competitive first person shooter that’s currently in development. Oddly enough, along with focusing on 1v1 combat, there will also be a collectible card game aspect to it.
A closed technical test for the game has already been held for the game in August 2017. It was to test both the online infrastructure as well as “learn what players like you think about the game in order to inform and influence future development”. Given that it was only available for North American servers, it will be interesting to see if more closed tests are announced for other regions.
Project 1v1 is the in-progress name for the title, which will apparently be receiving a behind closed doors presentation at E3 2018 (as per VG247). It’s interesting to see Gearbox go in this direction, especially considering Battleborn, which also featured a MOBA-esque twist on the hero shooter genre, didn’t pan out.
