The Coalition recently announced that the Gears 5 Versus technical beta would be taking place later this month, allowing players to try out the new Versus experience. One of the playable modes will be Escalation, a which has been updated since Gears of War 4. A new trailer during the ELEAGUE Gears Summer Series offered a look at how Escalation plays out now.
As an objective-based mode, Escalation consists of two teams of five players each. There are three rings on the map – it’s your job to control all of them. Each ring contributes one point per second captured with a total score limit of 250. If you’ve played Domination in Call of Duty or Control in Destiny, you’ll be familiar with how this works.
However, in an intriguing twist, capturing all three rings at once will result in a Domination Victory. The team to win seven rounds first is declared the victor. It’s an interesting change, though one has to wonder if it will result in dragged out games.
The Gears 5 Versus technical beta will take place from July 19th to 22nd and then again from July 26th to 29th. Check out the PC specific requirements here. Gears 5 will be releasing on September 10th for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
