The Coalition has been ramping up coverage on Gears 5‘s competitive multiplayer Versus mode. It recently revealed the new recoil system and universal weapon tuning – which means weapons will have the same balance for Core and Competitive modes. We also received extensive gameplay footage from the ELEAGUE Summer Series Invitational (spoiler: Shotguns are still pretty good).
However, another key detail that was announced was the presence of 60 Hz servers. For many players, this is important because it dictates the rate at which the server communicates with the client (higher is usually better). This means you’ll experience less deaths behind walls and such.
Gears 5 will release on September 10th for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate players can get it on September 6th though. In the meantime, if you pre-ordered the game digitally or are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass on PC or Xbox One, you can try out the Versus tech test from July 19th to 22nd and July 26th to 29th.
