Ghost of Yōtei: Legends’ Raid is the “Last Major Planned Update,” Says Sucker Punch

The developer hasn't clarified whether regular updates, including bug fixes and balance changes, will continue for the co-op mode.

It’s been over a month since Sucker Punch released the raid for Ghost of Yōtei: Legends, finally allowing players to confront Lord Saito and the Dragon. Matchmaking would arrive few weeks after, alongside Hell Mode difficulty for the raid’s bosses and the option to retire perfect gear pieces. What’s next for the online co-op mode? Well, not much else.

In a new PlayStation Blog post talking about the raid’s design, the developer stated it “was our last major planned update for Legends. It finishes the story of the Yōtei Six in that mode. We’ve loved to see players playing it, continue to play it and enjoy it. It’s been great.”

“Planned” update implies that the team could return to the mode if there’s demand, but right now, there’s no more content in the works. It’s unlikely that regular updates will stop, so players could still expect balance adjustments and bug fixes, but it’s still up in the air.

However, for fans of Ghost of Tsushima’s Legends mode, it’s tough not to feel a twinge of disappointment. After launching in October 2020, Tsushima: Legends would receive further updates until early 2022, including a Custom Game option for Platinum Survival, updates to the crafting system, and the Rivals Mode. Granted, it wasn’t the largest influx of new content, but it lasted for far longer.

Maybe the reception to Yōtei: Legends wasn’t as massive, or perhaps Sucker Punch wants to allocate resources to the next project. Either way, you might want to get in on it before the population dies down.

Ghost of Yōtei is available on PS5, and thankfully, the base game remains as enjoyable as ever. It sold 3.3 million units within its first month and received rave reviews – check out ours here.
