There was never any doubt that God of War Ragnarok was going to be a massive critical and commercial success, but the pace at which the action-adventure title has sold since its launch in November has been a little surprising nonetheless, to say the least. The game sold 5.1 million units at launch, becoming the biggest ever launch for a first party PlayStation game, and now, its sales stand at more than double that number.
Taking recently to Twitter, developer SIE Santa Monica Studio announced that God of War Ragnarok has sold over 11 million copies worldwide. That’s a very impressive number no matter how you cut it, but even more so when you consider the fact that the game has only been out for less than three months. If it eventually ends up coming to PC like its predecessor – which is likely to happen – its sales are likely to keep climbing to much higher heights.
God of War Ragnarok is also set to receive New Game Plus mode this Spring, for those who have a hankering to dive back into its offerings- though, sadly, it seems unlikely that it will get story DLC.
In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “God of War Ragnarok surpasses its predecessor in every way. From its captivating story to its thrilling combat to the endlessly explorable and wonderfully designed Nine Realms of Norse mythology, it’s an unequivocal triumph from top to bottom.” Read the full review through here.
God of War Ragnarok is available on PS5 and PS4. A TV show based on the 2018 title is currently in production at Amazon.
