God of War Ragnarok – UK Launch Week Sales Beat Elden Ring, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Santa Monica Studio's sequel is the second biggest boxed game launch in the UK this year, with 51 percent higher sales than its predecessor.

Gfk revealed last week that God of War Ragnarok was the series’ biggest launch in the United Kingdom to date. It’s UK Boxed Top Ten for the week ending November 12th is now available, and to no one’s surprise, Santa Monica Studio’s sequel is on top. It’s the second biggest boxed game launch in the UK this year, just behind FIFA 23.

First-week sales surpassed that of Elden Ring, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Pokemon Legends: Arceus (which previously held second place). The PS5 version encompassed 82 percent of sales, while the PS4 version made up 18 percent. About 12 percent of PS5 sales were from the PS5 bundle, which made up 60 percent of all PS5 consoles sold in the region for the week. This makes it the console’s biggest week in sales for 2022, as per Gfk market research company director Dorian Bloch.

Insanely enough, digital sales haven’t been factored in, so the overall sales figures could be even higher. Compared to God of War (2018), Ragnarok sold 51 percent more units in its first week and is already the third-best-selling title in the franchise. It also ranks second among the series in revenue.
