Gotham Knights Will Run at 30 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, No Performance Mode Included

The open world action RPG won't be able to run at 60 FPS due to the inclusion of features such as untethered co-op, as per the developers.

When WB Games announced earlier this year that the last-gen versions of Gotham Knights had been cancelled to avoid making comprises because of the weaker hardware, many hoped for a technically impressive game on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as a result. While it remains to be seen how exactly the game will turn out on the newer and more powerful machines, one disappointing exclusion has been confirmed on that front.

Producer Fleur Marty recently confirmed in the Gotham Knights Discord server (via @Wario64 on Twitter) that on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Gotham Knights will run at 30 FPS, and a 60 FPS option won’t be included. As per Marty, the exclusion of a performance mode is down to “the types of features” available in the game, like “a fully untethered co-op experience” in the game’s “highly detailed open world.”

That 60 FPS will become the standard (or at least be included as an option in most releases, especially major ones) has been what most have expected with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, so it’s not surprising that this news has been met with plenty of disappointment. Whether or not developer WB Games Montreal will end up patching in a performance mode down the line remains to be seen.

Gotham Knights launches on October 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It was recently announced that the game will also receive free 4-player co-op mode in November.
