As the only major release in December for both home consoles and PC, Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 6 sold about 300,000 copies in the United States according to analysts at Cowen & Company.
Despite a decline from November, Cowen & Co. believes that publishers like Activision will reach their projections for the fiscal quarter, as seen with lacking sales for Call of Duty: Ghosts being offset by increased sales of Skylander: SWAP Force. Take Two Interactive will also see “robust” sales for Grand Theft Auto V while Blizzard is expected to see an increase in World of Warcraft subscriptions.
Considering that November was the launch of not one but two next generation consoles with the PS4 and Xbox One, it’s expected that December will be somewhat lacking. Even more kudos must be attributed to Gran Turismo 6 in this case then, since it managed to maintain enough attention for PS3 users saturated by multiple third party titles in November. Stay tuned for the NPD’s December 2013 report to find just how the month fared in terms of sales.
