We’ve already been waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6 for well over a decade at this point, so a recent report by Kotaku that the game’s production was falling behind and that its release date could slip into 2026 were met with widespread disappointment. There seems to be conflicting information out there on that front though, because different sources are now claiming that a delay isn’t on the table for the game right now.
Mike Straw, senior editor at Insider Gaming, recently took to Twitter and claimed that based on what he’s been told by “multiple sources”, Grand Theft Auto 6 is still “on schedule”, contrary to recent claims. As per Straw, suggestions that the game would be delayed out of 2025 are “pure conjecture.”
Of course, it’s worth mentioning that Kotaku’s aforementioned report claimed that a 2026 release was being considered by Rockstar Games as a failsafe option should production on GTA 6 continue to fall behind, and that currently, the plan is still early 2025 (though late 2025 is looking more likely).
Rockstar does have a history of delaying games, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Grand Theft Auto 6 does ultimately end up getting pushed back beyond its intended launch window.
