Looks like Rocket League is not the only big multiplayer game that could potentially have cross platform multiplayer- CD Projekt RED recently revealed that they are looking at implementing the feature for their upcoming Gwent too, with a technical solution already ready and in place, and just approval needed from Sony’s end.
CD Projekt CEO Marcin Iwiński told IGN, “We are keeping our fingers crossed for Rocket League paving the way. Our upcoming Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will launch in closed beta for PC and Xbox One later this year, and Microsoft already confirmed Gwent’s cross-play feature not only between Xbox One and PC, but also other consoles if they allow it.
“We also do have a technical solution in place for PS4 and would love to add Sony’s platform to cross-play at the start of open beta. All we need is a green light from Sony.”
Hopefully, Sony greenlight cross-platform play between the PS4 and other consoles. A unified community for multiplayer games going forward would be the absolute best ting- Sony already understand this, and they have long been a pioneer and advocate for cross platform multiplayer. Let’s hope they don’t get cold feet now, at this crucial juncture.
