Helldivers 2 Crosses 400,000 Concurrent Steam Players, Overtakes Grand Theft Auto 5

Arrowhead's acclaimed third-person co-op shooter continues to build momentum, peaking at 409,367 concurrent players on PC.

Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 has achieved another incredible milestone. It has peaked at 409,367 concurrent players on Steam, beating out the likes of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 (which reached 364,548 concurrent players on the platform about nine years ago). This is after it recently surpassed player counts for Starfield and Destiny 2, with the developer having to raise the concurrent player cap due to overcrowded servers.

Helldivers 2 was in development for nearly eight years and sold about one million units as of February 11th. The total should be much higher by now, and Arrowhead is looking to expand its development team for future content. A roadmap was in the works, but due to being “very out of date in comparison to what we now want to do,” the team is working on new one, per studio CEO Johan Pilestedt.

Helldivers 2 is available for PS5 and PC, with cross-platform multiplayer supported. Arrowhead may add cross-progression sometime in the future, though it’s not guaranteed despite so many playing on both platforms. In the meantime, check out our review here.
