Sony’s recent decision to make PlayStation Network logins mandatory for Steam players to be able to continue playing Helldivers 2 hasn’t gone down well with the community, to say the very least. The game has been met with widespread backlash, and among several concerns, one that’s been raised by many is the fact that with PSN not being available in a number of countries, Helldivers 2 is going to become unplayable for players in those regions.
Sony has responded to those concerns in… well, not how you would expect. As reported by SteamDB on Twitter, it seems Helldivers 2 has now been delisted on Steam in a whopping 177 countries, all of which are countries where PlayStation Network is not available.
Whether this is a temporary measure while Sony sorts out the mess it has landed the game in or something more permanent remains to be seen, though the latter seems unlikely. Regardless, the situation is far from ideal for what was until very recently one of 2024’s biggest success stories in gaming.
Steam has also been issuing refunds for Helldivers 2 players, even including many that have hundreds of hours of play time in the game. Arrowhead Game Studios boss Johan Pilested, meanwhile, has assured that the developer is in discussions with Sony regarding potential solutions.
