Helldivers 2 Update Brings Two New Worlds, New Goal of Defending Against Automatons

Helldivers 2 players will have to hit pause on their war against alien bugs for the time being and instead focus on Automatons.

Helldivers 2 is kicking off one of its first live events. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has released a new video announcement on the game’s X (formerly Twitter) account, telling players that Automatons are the new threat that must be dealt with.

According to the video, the Automatons have launched a surprise attack on multiple worlds in the Xzar sector, leading to two new playable planets in the area as well as a new order: players will have to complete at least 8 Defend campaigns against the Automatons.

The announcement, meant to be a fun way to continue the ongoing story of the Helldivers 2 setting, leverages the game’s strengths as an online co-op focused shooter, and moving forward, we will likely see more such announcements pop up, giving players new targets on different worlds.

Helldivers 2 has been quite successful since its launch earlier this month on PC and PS5. The PC version of the game has seen more than 200,000 concurrent players during its peak hours, and the studio is busy pumping out updates to fix bugs and matchmaking issues in the game. The studio has also revealed that it is expanding the development team to work on future content for the game.
