Kojima Productions and 505 Games are working to bring Death Stranding Director’s Cut to PC this Spring (with more details slated for later this month). But Hideo Kojima’s next big project has been the subject of rumors for while now. Rumors indicated that his studio would be developing an Xbox title with Microsoft as the publisher and that former Portal developer Kim Swift was roped in as senior director of Xbox Cloud Gaming due to the title’s focus on cloud technologies.
There have since been reports of this title being an “existing IP,” though an official announcement is still pending. Adding even more fuel to the fire is Kojima’s recent appearance on NHK Radio’s special ”Wonderful World of Game Music” (details and translation via Genki on Twitter). He spoke about his current projects which includes a “big AAA title that everyone will say that they want to play.”
He also spoke about wanting to make a smaller project that’s neither an open world game nor a shooter. The recently opened Kojima Productions studio in Los Angeles is also working on “drama, film and anime.” As such, the game development studio doesn’t have enough staff and is facing difficulties recruiting new developers from abroad due to the ongoing pandemic.
Many questions still remain though. Is the big triple-A title referring to the rumored Xbox project? Could it possibly be the new Silent Hill, which is rumored to be funded by Sony? Is this the “radical” new project that Kojima teased recently or is that referring to the smaller project? Time will tell so stay tuned for more details.
