Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is here and introduces plenty of new content to sink your teeth into. There are new Machines, Quests, weapons, and much more to discover. It also adds 18 Trophies, leading to the age-old question: What do you need for 100 percent completion?
Let’s look at all the Trophies below and how to unlock them.
How to Unlock All Trophies
All Quests Completed
This one is pretty straightforward – you must finish all the main and side quests in the expansion to unlock it. Thankfully, this is possible on any difficulty, so if you’re struggling with some tasks, knock the difficulty down to Story and wipe out anything that gets in your way. If you want the challenge but don’t want to waste time grinding, turn on Easy Loot. It causes defeated Machines to drop all their parts instead of requiring Aloy to target specific sections and break them off.
Discovered the Ascension
When arriving in the Burning Shores and returning to Fleet’s End with Sekya, you must locate some Quen that have gone missing. After disabling the anti-air tower, you can travel to Starlight Rise, where antagonist Walter Londra is reportedly hiding. Learning about the Ascension and Londra’s plan will unlock this Trophy.
Confronted Londra
After passing his trials and learning the truth about Londra and his plans for the Quen (spoilers: cloning and lording over them, because insane), Aloy will have to fight an Apex Slaughterspine. Defeating it and rescuing Sekya’s sister will unlock this Trophy.
Aided the Quen
Once the captive Quen return to Fleet’s End, and you’ve helped them recover some “priceless knowledge,” you’ll unlock this Trophy.
Defeated Londra and His Horus
After defeating Londra inside an awakened Horus Titan, you’ll receive this Trophy.
All New Skills Learned
Aloy has some sick new Skills to learn, one for each of her Skill Trees and learning all of them unlocks this Trophy. However, you’ll need to reach the bottom of the tree to access each one. However, there’s an increased level cap, and the new Skills are all useful. Here’s what they all do:
- Warrior’s Instinct – Increases the duration that weakened enemies are knocked down and your “awareness” of them. Use a Power attack by holding and releasing R2 or a Nora Warrior combo (Press R1 three times and then R2) to execute it.
- Warrior’s Vigor – The new Valor Surge increases Warrior Bow and Spear damage. They both gain 60 percent increased damage and return six percent of your health with each hit.
- Elemental Spear – Attach elemental capsules to your spear to cause it to deal elemental damage. Equipping outfit weaves that increase the skill level will provide longer duration and more damage with the capsules.
- Smoke Bomb Heal – Thrown down a Smoke Bomb, and you’ll gradually regain health inside it. It’s good for decreasing aggro and also regenerating some health.
- Trap Mines – A new Valor Surge that lets you throw a mine which splits into four traps that explode, each dealing 400 Explosive damage. The mines will hover in place after deploying and eventually expire, so use them more actively instead of waiting for enemies.
- Ropecaster Expert – Say you’ve just tied down a Machine with a Ropecaster, and it’s starting to recover. With this Skill, shooting another rope will instantly halt them again for a short time. You can only do this once per enemy, so don’t count on roping a Slaughterspine in quick succession.
- Glide Targeting – While aiming during a glide, this Skill will slow down time and quickly aim your weapon. It also lets you shoot the new Specter Gauntlet while gliding and unlike other weapons, this doesn’t break your gliding. You can rain death from above with this method and earn another Trophy easily.
- Hunter’s Mark – This new Valor Surge causes the next few shots with your Hunter Bow to mark targets. Marked targets have a 20 percent chance of receiving Critical Damage. Destroying components also trigger a 200-damage explosion.
- Machine Grapple Strike – Allows you to Grapple Strike Machines that are knocked down. Press when within range to execute it. If you time the R1 press, you can energize the enemy and shoot that spot for a Resonator Blast, causing even more damage.
- Low Health Stamina – When below 25 percent health, regain Weapon Stamina quickly.
- Defy Death – A new Valor Surge which causes your health to drop to critical levels but grants a 30 percent damage increase. When it ends, health recovers up to the critical threshold.
- Shield Drop – Allows for crafting and using Drop Shields. Though these serve as barriers to block damage, they can also damage small Machines and cause them to stumble if they attack and break them. Raising the Skill’s maximum level also increases the durability.
- Sharpshot Expert – The accuracy of your Sharpshot Bow shots is higher when walking or crouching.
- Berserk Blast – A new Valor Surge which attaches and activates a module on your spear to cause all enemies in a 30-meter radius to go Berserk. The effect lasts for 32 seconds. Berserker Machines will attack anything indiscriminately, so get away quickly.
- Stealth Resonator – Build up Resonator energy faster with Silent Strikes. When your spear is charged, they also deal more damage.
- Flying Grapple Launch – Allows for Grapple Launching off of flying mounts. Perfect when there aren’t any nearby structures to launch from or because it looks cool.
- Override Overdrive – A new Valor Surge that causes overridden Machines to emit 50 arc damage every two seconds. They also deal more damage and explode in an eight-meter radius on death but take damage over time. You can override a Machine beforehand and activate the Valor Surge to trigger the effect.
- Resonator Refill – After overriding a Machine, your spear energizes enough for a Resonator Blast.
Reached Level 60
Requires hitting the new level cap of 60. It may seem daunting, but as anyone who played Forbidden West will tell you, leveling is easy. First, play through all the main story missions, which should bring you near the level cap. You can earn the remaining levels by completing side activities, liberating Rebel Outposts, and hunting powerful Machines.
Used Brimshine
This Trophy requires purchasing an Outfit and Weapon using Brimshine, the new resource. It’s present throughout the Burning Shores, but you’ll need 16 for an Outfit and Weapon. Collecting Delver Trinkets and locating the final treasure can provide 15 Brimstone, making the task easier and contributing to another Trophy unlock.
Equipped an Elite Coil or Weave
Along with new weapons and Outfits, new Weaves and Coils are available and a new tier, Elite. While enemies can drop Elite tier Weaves and Coils, you can purchase them from vendors. Equip either your Outfit or Weapon to unlock this Trophy. You only need one or the other and not both.
Specter Gauntlet Upgraded
Those who envied Far Zenith in Forbidden West for their weaponry can rejoice – Aloy gains the use of the Specter Gauntlet after completing the third main story quest. To earn this Trophy, you need to upgrade it fully. There’s only one upgrade, but you must complete a side quest. Speak to Otosu in Fleet’s End to start the side quest, which involves slaying a Machine with a railgun. Upon obtaining the upgrade, return to the settlement and perform the upgrade from a workbench to get the Trophy and a stronger Specter Gauntlet.
Cauldron THETA Core Overridden
The latest Cauldron, THETA, is located on the Eastern side of the Burning Shores map. You’ll need to do some light puzzle-solving and gliding to traverse it before going head-to-head with an Apex Bilegut. Defeat it and reach the core to unlock this Trophy and the ability to override Bileguts.
All New Machines Scanned
There are four new Machines – the Bilegut, Stingspawn, Waterwing and the Horus. Scanning all of them with the Focus will unlock this Trophy. Since each is found in a different main story quest, you can scan them during these times. As such, you’ll scan Horus during the final mission, so it can’t be missed. If you miss the others, visit Bilegut Sites and Waterwing Mount Sites to scan them.
Completed the Dino Digits Quiz
Throughout the Burning Shores are Pangea Figurines, which provide the solution to the Dino Digits Quiz. You’ll find a figurine in the West, another to the North West, a third in the central landmass, the fourth in the North West and the fifth inside, you guessed it, Pangea Park. Once you’ve retrieved all the figures, go to the consoles in the park and input the following codes, starting from the left: 6837, 4331, 378, 785, 1051. You’ll receive a congratulatory message and unlock this Trophy.
Recovered the Delvers’ Trove
As noted above, the Delver Trinkets can be a good source for Brimshine, especially when digging up the last treasure. There are seven Trinkets to collect, the first in the middle of the map slightly to the East near a campfire. The second is on the far West side of the map; the third is found in the North East most part; the fourth is to the South; the fifth is to the North, near the Rebel Outpost; the sixth is to the South, near some Rebel Ruins; and the seventh to the South West. Upon locating them all, you can go to the treasure’s location in the West, slightly North-West of the Cauldron THETA. Dig it up, and the Trophy and some Brimshine are yours.
Recovered All Aerial Captures
Aerial Captures are a new activity in the expansion. You investigate mysterious signals, similar to Black Boxes in the base game. However, upon interacting with them, you activate a flight path and some rings to fly through. Successfully flying through all of them rewards you with an aerial photo at the end, showcasing a scene from the past. There are six Aerial Captures, and you’ll find them in the North, Northeast, East, Northwest, West and Southern parts of the Burning Shores.
Used Grapple Strike on Machines
After unlocking the new Skill, Machine Grapple Strike, you need to use it on five unique Machines to get this Trophy. The good news is you can use the Machines from the base game, so locate some relatively weak Machines, use the Knockdown Shot to take them down and then execute a Grapple Strike. Remember that you must complete the entire combo, which includes the R1 prompt for the Resonator Blast weak point, for it to count.
Killed Machines While Gliding
This Trophy requires the Glide Targeting Skill and the Specter Gauntlet, the latter available after the third main quest. Once you get it, you can aim it while gliding down. The key is to gain enough height with a flying Machine, jump off, start gliding, and shoot the Machines below with the Specter Gauntlet. Find a location with relatively weak Machines to pull this off. Slay five of them, and the Trophy is yours.
Killed Bileguts and Stingspawn
Two new Machines are the Bilegut and Stingspawn, found exclusively in the Burning Shores. Look for different Machine Sites for the former and head to Cauldron THETA for the latter. You need to kill five Bileguts and 50 Stingspawns to earn the Trophy.
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is available exclusively for PS5.
