Horizon Forbidden West – Guerrilla Games Working to Address Various Visual Issues

Reports of too much sharpening in Resolution Mode, resulting in artifacting and shimmering, have seemingly been addressed by the developer.

Horizon Forbidden West is out and about, garnering critical acclaim while also being the second biggest PS5 title launch the UK. Many aspects have received praise including the visuals but it’s not quite without its issues. Over on the game’s subreddit, one user indicated that too much sharpening was being applied in Resolution Mode.

This seems to cause shimmering and other artifacts, thus diluting the quality overall. Whether this is the key issue or not, Guerrilla Games made separate post, thanking players for their reports on “various visual issues.” “The team are working vigilantly to resolve these issues with high priority and are aiming to get an update out as soon as possible.” In the meantime, fans are encouraged to share videos via the Support Form to offer up more information on issues.

“We understand your frustrations and appreciate your patience. We are doing our best to quickly get you back out into the wilds so you can explore all the secrets of the Forbidden West.”

Horizon Forbidden West launched with two graphics modes – Performance and Resolution Mode – with the latter running in native 4K/30 FPS. Time will tell how Guerrilla plans to address the issue but it could end up looking even better than it does now. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime and check out our official review here.
