Horizon: Zero Dawn Targeting 1080p and 30FPS on PS4, Will Not Have A Season Pass or Microtransactions

A spate of good announcements all around.

Possibly the most interesting game in Sony’s entire slate of upcoming titles is Horizon: Zero Dawn. The Guerrilla Games developed open world action RPG has captured the imaginations of many, thanks to its highly intriguing premise, its mysterious world, its enigmatic protagonist, its departure from any other title in Sony’s lineup, and of course, because of how beautiful it looks.

As to that last point, Guerrilla Games have confirmed on Twitter that the game is targeting 1080p and 30fps on standard PS4 systems; they haven’t yet made any announcements regarding what kinds of visual enhancements we can expect on PS4 Pro, but given that this game seems to be a flagship title for Sony’s upgraded console, I would expect support for 4K resolutions via checkerboard upscaling, at the very least.

Guerrilla also had more good news to share- they confirmed that the game does not have Season Pass planned for it yet, which means that any content that they conceived of for the game likely made it into the game, rather than being held back for post launch support; they also confirmed that the game will not have any microtransactions, which means you don’t need to worry about any content being held ransom behind arbitrary paywalls. A major new AAA release that is single player only, with no planned DLC or microtransactions- how often does that happen now?

Horizon: Zero Dawn is due out exclusively on PS4 next month.
