Larian Studios has enjoyed stupendous critical and commercial success with Baldur’s Gate 3, so it’s only natural that all eyes are going to be on what the developer comes out with next- though as you might expect, it will be a while before we hear anything about it.
Larian Studios boss and director Swen Vincke recently took to Twitter to speak about the next project he’s working on, saying that after having spent the last four months “rewriting and abandoning ideas”, he’s zeroed in on what the game’s first act is going to look like. He went on to talk about the iterative nature of creative work in general, which means things can always change, though he suspects “a lot” of what he’s figured out for act 1 of his next game is going to survive in the final draft.
“Been a great morning,” Vincke wrote. “After 4 months of rewriting and rewriting and abandoning ideas and then revisiting them, finally figured out what act 1 on this thing I’ve been working on needs to be. Quote me when it’s revealed to see how much of today’s draft survives. I suspect a lot.”
That said, he went on to make it clear that the project is still in its early stages, saying that it’ll be a while before Larian is ready to talk about it in an official, formal capacity.
“Also – it’s not what you think and this is not an teaser for an announcement,” Vincke wrote. “Just am genuinely excited about where this is going and wanted to share some of my excitement. It’ll be quite some time before we talk about this.”
With Baldur’s Gate 3 still just a few months old, little is known about Larian’s next game, though Vincke has previously said that the recent success it has enjoyed will encourage it to “push may boundaries” with its next game.
Vincke has previously expressed interest in working on something smaller-scale after Baldur’s Gate 3, while he has also confirmed that Larian Studios will be making Divinity: Original Sin 3 “at some point.”
