Square Enix shared a wealth of information for Kingdom Hearts 3 at D23 Japan over the weekend. This included new footage of Disney worlds like Tangled and Monsters Inc. along with details on the Gummi Ship and how it fits into the larger worlds.
As per GameSpot, Square Enix also talked about how the game is split up based on development. There are three development phases – early, middle and late – with around three worlds in each section. That doesn’t mean there will just be nine worlds overall though. Early phase worlds are currently 90 percent complete with the middle section worlds at 60 percent.
Interestingly, along with the entire Osaka studio, 100 employees from Square Enix’s Tokyo studio are also developing the game. Director Tetsuya Nomura didn’t talk about the progress for game’s late phase worlds. However, as we noted earlier, he did say the final stage was something he’s “wanted to do and put into Kingdom Hearts, ever since the days of working on Final Fantasy. It is bound to surprise everyone.”
The current development for Kingdom Hearts 3 gives us hope that it will indeed release this year for Xbox One and PS4. As always, stay tuned for more updates.
