At first I started up playing ‘The Sacrifice’ DLC thinking what a rip off it is for such a short piece of campaign. Eventually I realized that the DLC actually give Left 4 Dead somewhat of a story which has never really been seen before. That is provided that you have played ‘The Passing’ DLC in which otherwise you won’t understand any story or plot in The Sacrifice. That being said if you have not played The Passing DLC then The Sacrifice DLC is just another short played zombie killing chapter with not with no story and played as the Left 4 Dead 1 Survivors. Let me explain; Spoiler Warning if you have not played ‘The Passing’…

At the end of ‘The Passing’ DLC you can find L4D 1 Survivor, Bill, dead right next to a generator in a room with his weapon there for the taking. Why is Bill dead and how did he wind up dying right there? Those questions are answered when you play ‘The Sacrifice’ and maybe even get a hint by peaking at the Achievements.

So actually having a story or plot to a Left 4 Dead game was quite nice to see and playing as the L4D 1 Survivors Point of View to find out how they got stranded up on that bridge (after playing the Passing) was pretty cool I thought. Everything tied together nicely.

Unfortunately the DLC adds no new weapons or modes and most importantly was the price. Valve always release these little DLC bundle free on the PC version of the game while Xbox 360 users must shell out 560 Microsoft Points to play it. This is outrageous and has nothing to do with game developer Valve, but only Microsoft themselves as if they don’t empty your wallet enough as a 360 user. To top that off if you want to play ‘The Sacrifice’ on the Left 4 Dead 1 as well as 2 you must buy the DLC twice!!! Talk about raping your for you hard earned cash as is Microsoft doesn’t have enough money while this and all previous DLC is free on the PC because Valve is awesome with love for their fans.
In a nutshell, PC players should definitely play The Sacrifice as well as The Passing. Xbox 360 owners if you have the 560 Microsoft Points/$7 to spend go for with keeping in mind that it is short (around 20-30 minutes) and it is much, much more enjoyable after playing ‘The Passing’ DLC which is the same price. In fact I would not recommend getting The Sacrifice if you haven’t played The Passing.

THE GOOD
Seeing what was happening from the Left 4 Dead 1 survivors point of view, up until the Passing. Adds the 'No Mercy' level to Left 4 Dead 2 which is from Left for Dead 1.
THE BAD
Short... very short and not worth 560 Microsoft Points especially is you have not played 'The Passing' DLC. Adds nothing else but three short sections in one chapter. The last part is the same map as the Passing end map so that leaves this DLC with only 2 new level designs.
Final Verdict
'The Sacrifice' DLC leads up to 'The Passing' DLC from the point of view of the Left 4 Dead 1 survivors. Available for both Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 for the PC as well as the Xbox 360.
