Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Won’t Need DLC; Half of the Monsters New

Plus a happy ending for everyone involved from previous games.

More details for Square Enix’s Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII have come up, again courtesy of Famitsu’s follow-up report.

We’ve already talked about monsters appearing in towns as well as fields. However, at certain times and places, a blackish fog called “Cie” manifests, which indicates monster areas. Even more interestingly, defeating tougher monsters will not only help make you stronger but also grants points for adding to the timer.

Square Enix has also stated that despite battling many familiar foes, about half of the enemies in Lightning Returns are brand new.

But perhaps the most interesting aspect is the story. Unlike Final Fantasy XIII-2, the story is self contained and won’t be continued in any DLC. Also, if you’re interested to know what’s happened to previous entries’ characters (because Lightning Returns takes place 100 years after FFXIII-2), then you’re in luck. Square is promising people will be satisfied with how their stories end, and that loose ends will be tied up.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is due out this year for Xbox 360 and PS3.
