PlayStation’s newest State of Play goes live later today, and with over 60 minutes of reveals and announcements, the hype is palpable. Of course, with PlayStation Studios confirmed for the same, it only made sense to expect something from Bungie’s Marathon. On cue, the official Discord has confirmed the extraction shooter’s presence.
Not only that, but there will be a gameplay livestream afterwards at 3 PM PT with game director Joe Ziegler and some “special guests.” Unfortunately, those expecting a “surprise preview drop” this weekend will be disappointed as it’s currently not on the cards.
However, Bungie only confirmed that it wasn’t this weekend – for all we know, the State of Play announcement could announce an open beta for later this month. It would certainly fit with the studio’s approach of letting players “know the dates in advance so you have some more time to plan around them.”
Marathon is out on March 5th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC after tumultuous development period, including (but not limited to) theft of assets from an independent artist, which was later settled. It retails for $40 and includes six Runners at launch, which you can learn more about here. A recent preview event in China yielded some new details, including Ziegler claiming that seasons would offer a “months-long roguelike adventure.”
Perhaps we’ll learn more about seasons and other improvements, as spotted in the last closed beta, in today’s livestream. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
