Marathon Expected to Launch by March 31st, 2026 – Sony

Sony CFO Lin Tao reaffirmed that a release date for the extraction shooter would be announced this Autumn based on "progress."

Bungie has been quiet about Marathon since its delay out of September, but in a recent Q&A session following its financial results, Sony expects it to release within this fiscal year. That means sometime before April 1st, 2026, but it’s far from an official commitment.

Chief financial officer Lin Tao stated via interpreter (transcription via VGC) that, “First, about Marathon, how we factored it in the forecast, we expect the launch to happen within the fiscal year. But, having said that, this is not a commitment. No official announcement has been given yet.”

Tao also reaffirmed ongoing changes with the extraction shooter and that a new release date would be announced this Fall. “We are now doing modifications in development and, based on the progress, in the Autumn time frame, we believe we can communicate when we can launch [Marathon], either from Bungie or PlayStation.”

For its part, Bungie is holding more closed tests ahead of the launch date reveal with dynamic events, new loot types, more engaging AI encounters, and a “more tense and strategic” combat loop. It also promised visual improvements, which were spotted in some leaked screenshots from recent alpha, and a “darker tone” in keeping with the original trilogy.

Marathon is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Its delay arrived in the wake of controversy, where a former art director utilized assets from an independent artist without permission. Check out the full story here.
