Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Developer Confirms Fall Damage and Swing Steering Assist Settings

Players can toggle fall damage for Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the sequel when it launches on October 20th for PS5.

Following YouTuber Blitzwinger’s report, Insomniac Games confirmed to IGN that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would have a setting for fall damage. It’s off by default, and as senior programming director Doug Sheahan revealed, it’s in response to players who would “like to be able to customize their experience.”

“Something we’re seeing more and more of is that players like to be able to customize their experience. For those players, we added the ability to enable fall damage (fall damage defaults to Off) and even let people tweak how swinging feels with our Swing Steering Assist setting. We hope players who enjoy a deep dive into the details have fun experimenting.”

Sheahan didn’t go into too many details about Swing Steering Assist, but it could involve the game automatically dictating the correct direction while swinging. This should make it easier for players to round corners while web-swinging through the city.

As for fall damage, this is a first for the series since neither Marvel’s Spider-Man nor Miles Morales had the option. It’s unlikely that smacking into buildings at high speed will cause any damage to either Peter or Miles, but you never know. Regardless, it should provide an extra bit of danger to one’s web-swinging experience (should they desire it).
