Marvel’s Wolverine Will be Semi-Open World, Targeting Fall 2024 Launch – Rumour

Journalist Jeff Grubb also claims the game will have a Mature rating, and will feature human dismemberment mechanics.

While Insomniac is currently hard at work on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the highly anticipated sequel – which is due out this Fall – isn’t the only major licensed superhero title the studio is currently working on. Marvel’s Wolverine, which was announced in the latter months of 2021, is also currently in the works, and while official details on the game remain scant, some tidbits on it have emerged through unofficial means.

During a recent episode of Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings podcast, journalist Jeff Grubb leaked new details on Marvel’s Wolverine, claiming that it will be “M for Mature” rated game- which aligns with what its developers have said in the past. Grubb suggests that given the game’s rating, and given the fact that it’s a Wolverine game, dismemberment mechanics are likely to be featured as part of the combat.

He also goes on to claim that the game is unlikely to be fully open world, and will instead likely sport semi-open world with open, wide-linear sections similar to other modern Sony games (like, say, God of War and The Last of Us Part 2). Additionally, Grubb also says Insomniac is attempting to avoid any sort of links with the Wolverine movies as it looks to create a standalone experience. Interestingly, the game will allegedly be set before Logan has joined the X-Men.

Finally, Grubb also claims that Insomniac and Sony are currently targeting a Fall 2024 release- though that’s not necessarily set in stone, and the date could be pushed back into 2025 should development need more time. Given the fact that Insomniac said at the time of the game’s announcement that it was in “very early” development, one would imagine that an internal delay into 2025 is very likely.

Marvel’s Wolverine is in development exclusively for PS5.
