Capcom has confirmed many details about the previously announced, upcoming Mega Man X Collection today. First of all, the collection will be covered in two parts: Mega Man X Collection 1, which includes X1, X2, X3, and X4 and Collection 2, which includes X5, X6, X7, and X8.
Given that the series is widely regarded to have fallen off a cliff in terms of quality after the fourth game, I am curious to see how many players will actually spring for the Collection 2 pack. Those who want the entire collection consolidated will be able to get a 1+2 pack, which will come on disc for the PS4 and Xbox One versions, and a cartridge plus download codes for the Nintendo Switch version.
Speaking of which, the PS4 and Switch versions are the only ones that will get a physical release in Japan- the Xbox One and PC versions will be digital only. In the west, the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions all get a physical release.
The collections will come with many perks, as well. There will be a new mode called X Challenge, which will basically be a boss rush mode letting you square off against the bosses from across the series. A Museum Mode including The Day of Sigma OVA will be included, as will graphic options (with filters for 2D games, and resolution enhancement options for the 3D games).
As for when you can get the collections? They will be available in North America and Europe for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 24–save that date on your calendar, folks!
