Konami and Virtuos debuted some new gameplay for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater at the recent Xbox Games Showcase. While the updated visuals looked good, courtesy of Unreal Engine 5, it seemed like more of a faithful remake instead of making any wholesale changes.
Fortunately, Konami updated the official website to reveal some new details that may not have been obvious in the trailer. Along with the visuals bringing out “the wild growth of the jungles, forests, and swamps to life in exquisite detail,” it also allows for finer facial details. That includes wrinkles, pores and even separate movements for the eye and iris, resulting in “rich and emotive facial animations.”
However, the updated battle damage system sounds more impressive. Any injuries suffered, from bruises to bullet wounds, will reflect in real-time, with clothes suffering wear and tear in the process. However, they’ll also leave permanent scars, “telling a story of each player’s unique journey through the game.”
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. PlayStation billed it for 2024, but it could be delayed to 2025 according to recent rumors. An extended gameplay look will debut during special episode of the Official Xbox Podcast on June 11th, so stay tuned for even more details.
