As the inevitable release of the next generation of consoles draws closer, it’s certainly worth considering what some of the biggest takeaways from the current generation have been. We have been hearing from quite a few developers regarding what exactly the next generation of consoles will bring, and we’ve also heard rumors about things such as the next Xbox, codenamed Xbox Scarlett, focusing on things like cloud technology.
At Gamescom 2018, DualShockers asked Xbox Games’ marketing general manager Aaron Greenberg what exactly the company will be taking away from their experience with the Xbox One so as to make use of this knowledge for the Xbox Scarlett. Greenberg responded by saying that the main aim is to focus on fans, and emphasize current achievements such as backwards compatibility, and their innovation with hardware.
He stated, “I think the biggest thing for any company is “never lose sight of the customer. Always put your fans first”. If you think about them with every key decision you make, from every new product, to every pricing decision, to every launch date, to just how you roll things out, if you put your customer first you’ll be all right. I think that’s the most important thing you can never lose focus on. I’m really proud that this leadership team that’s in place is the team that has been leading the business kinda post-Xbox One launch, and if you’re seeing what the team has done there around backward compatibility, around innovation with hardware, around things like the Elite controller, all the innovation, and so much of that comes from listening to our fans. It feels like they’ve been a part of that journey with us.”
When he was asked whether the next Xbox would indeed be called Scarlett, he neither confirmed nor denied whether this would be the case, so make of that what you will. Overall, it looks like Microsoft is moving in the right direction, and we’ll hopefully get a great console with the next Xbox.
