The Xbox One X will be a big step above the original Xbox One when it releases next month. It’s specifically designed to run games at 4K resolution while delivering maximum performance. However, it arrives significantly later than the PlayStation 4 Pro which was Sony’s flagship console for Full HD/4K gaming.
However, Albert Penello, senior director of product management and planning at Microsoft, admires their rivals for bringing the PS4 Pro when they did, and states that even his team didn’t know it was coming. What he finds interesting though is how both companies’ ideas have converged on similar points. However, he also states that they aren’t simply reacting to the launch of the PS4 Pro and that they had started work on the Xbox One X long before the announcement for the former.
“I give them a lot of credit for what they did there,” he said to MCVUK. “But for me, the most interesting observation is that we both arrived at a similar idea even if the execution is slightly different.”
“They had a different idea in mind for what they wanted to build, so in retrospect it may seem like we were reacting to what they were doing. But people in the business know that this has been in the works for years, and we have to lock the specs years in advance.”
Microsoft is confident about the future of 4K gaming experiences and have placed all their bets on it, and hopefully, it will pay off. Their success is important for gaming and keeps the industry healthy.
