MLB The Show 21 – No Standard Edition Upgrade, Cross-Platform Progression Confirmed

Access to both the current and previous gen version will seemingly be included in the Collector's Edition.

San Diego Studio has finally taken the covers off of MLB The Show 21, its next major baseball title that will be available for Xbox and PlayStation platforms. Along with new trailer, the developer has also released numerous details via the PlayStation Blog. It confirmed cross-platform progression for accessing content on one’s platform and generation of choice.

It also noted that more details would be coming via Feature Premieres. These would be broadcast on Twitch, YouTube and so on, showcasing new features and updates for the upcoming release. The first Feature Premiere will be in March with six in total planned before launch.

Unfortunately, upgrading from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S via the Standard Edition path won’t be possible. If one is interested in accessing the game for both previous and current gen platforms, then the Collector’s Edition will be the ticket. More details on that will be provided on February 3rd but it could be similar to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s cross-gen bundle that included both versions.

MLB The Show 21 is out on April 20th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
