If someone had asked you five years ago what the top Capcom franchise would be in 2020, you’d probably have a few key picks. But I bet one of those picks wouldn’t be Monster Hunter. Regulated largely to handhelds and the Japanese market for many years, with the release of Monster Hunter World in 2018 the franchise exploded at an incredible pace. It’s no one hit wonder, either, as the game and its expansion has continued to sell well into 2020.
Capcom announced via press release that the game has now reached an astounding 15 million units shipped globally, solidifying its status as the best selling Capcom game of all time. Since the PC playerbase recently tripled, it should also come to no surprise the expansion, Iceborne, has shipped over 4 million copies, meaning its sold almost a 1/3 of the base game sales which is amazing for a DLC attach rate.
No doubt we’ll be seeing a lot of the franchise in the years to come, but for now, don’t hesitate to jump into the monster killing fun with Monster Hunter World and its expansion Iceborne that are available now.
